Glass with warm edge spacer

Discover the many benefits of glazing with warm edge spacer glass

The inter-glazing spacer bars in insulated glass units are a very important element worth paying more attention to. With the increasing demands for thermal insulation of windows and glazing, traditional aluminium spacer bars, with their high thermal conductivity, have become a weak point in this construction. At STAN-SZKŁO, in addition to aluminium space bars, we also offer so-called warm edge spacers by SWISSPACER and TERMOPROFI. Replacing the aluminium spacers with warm edge spacers in insulated glass units brings many benefits that improve both the technical performance and comfort of using the windows.

Improved thermal insulation

Warm edge spacers, made of materials with low thermal conductivity, reduce heat loss through the edges of the glass. This improves the value of the U heat transfer coefficient of the entire window by 5-15% depending on the type of frame, surface, or configuration of the insulated glass units.

Improved energy efficiency of the building

By reducing heat loss along the edge of the glass, energy consumption for heating in winter and cooling in summer can be reduced, resulting in an improvement in overall energy efficiency of approximately 2-10%, depending on the amount of glazing.

Reduced risk of condensation

The warm edge spacer increases the temperature on the glass edge surface, which minimises the risk of condensation on the glass. This helps to avoid:

  • the formation of stains and mould around the window,
  • deterioration of the aesthetics and hygiene of the room.

Greater thermal comfort

The elimination of the sensation of cold near insulated glass units makes staying indoors more comfortable, especially during the winter season.

Reduction of thermal bridges

Aluminium frames, due to their high thermal conductivity, create thermal bridges at the edges of the glass. Warm edge spacers eliminate this problem.

Improved aesthetics of the window

The warm edge spacers are available in a range of colours to better match the style of the window and interior.

Ideal positioning of the edge spacers to maintain the aesthetics of the window

An important advantage of the edge spacers we use is their rigidity, which ensures perfectly parallel positioning of the spacers in relation to each other in double-glazed units. In this way, the effect of the edge spacers passing each other is eliminated, which is a common problem when using flexible plastic spacers. This is particularly noticeable on the long sides of large or balcony windows and makes the primary seal (butyl) visible, in particular when white-coloured spacers are used.
